Phillips 66 and United Way for Southwest LA

Vapor Point is honored to be a Platinum Sponsor for the 2016 Phillips 66 United Way Golf Scramble, hosted by The National Golf Club of Louisiana in Westlake on Saturday, October 29. This event benefits the Southwest Louisiana (SWLA) United Way, which works with community partners to deliver programs and services that promote the building blocks for a good life: a quality education that leads to stable employment, sufficient income to support a family through retirement, and good health. The Phillips 66 United Way Golf Scramble has enjoyed rapid growth since its humble beginnings as a single flight event dedicated to Gerald “Wash” Washington, a former Conoco employee and mayor of Westlake. The tournament now features both morning and afternoon flights, and has grown to a field of 50 teams, 200 players, and over 25 volunteers. At least ten holes provide food and beverages to participants—nobody goes home hungry or thirsty! In addition, many vendors and contractors donate prizes. The golf scramble is one of three events sponsored by Phillips 66 Lake Charles Refinery as part of a broader campaign to raise money for United Way. The other two initiatives include employee pledging—for which employees may direct funding to the partner agencies of their choice—and a huge on-line auction for employees and vendors.

Last year the golf scramble raised $47,944, which the United Way then dispersed to partner agencies dedicated to disaster relief. The goal for this year’s scramble is $55,000, a significant part of an ambitious overall goal by Phillips 66 to raise $350,000 for United Way.

Vapor Point is honored to continue our partnership with Phillips 66 and the SWLA United Way.
